1. About Snake Boat (Warm-Up)

ENGLISH

• The snake boat is the traditional war boat of Kerala.

• It looks like a snake, so it is called a snake boat.

• The real name is Chundan Vallam, meaning a beaked boat.

• It was designed by Devanarayana.

• In the centre, two men beat the odithatta and sing Vanchipattu (boat song).

• The strongest rowers sit in front.

• Six helmsmen control the back of the boat.

• The topmost person is the chief oarsman.

• One snake boat carries around 100 rowers.

• Each boat represents a village.

HINDI

• स्नेक बोट केरल की पारंपरिक युद्ध नाव है।

• यह साँप जैसी दिखती है, इसलिए इसे Snake Boat कहा जाता है।

• इसका असली नाम Chundan Vallam है, जिसका अर्थ है चोंच वाली नाव।

• इसे देवनारायण नामक कारीगर ने बनाया था।

• नाव के बीच में दो लोग ओदिथट्टा बजाते हैं और वंचिपट्टू (नाव गीत) गाते हैं।

• सबसे ताकतवर नाविक आगे बैठते हैं।

• पीछे की ओर नाव को 6 हेल्म्समेन चलाते हैं।

• सबसे ऊपर बैठा व्यक्ति मुख्य नाविक होता है।

• एक नाव में लगभग 100 नाविक बैठ सकते हैं।

• हर नाव एक गाँव का प्रतिनिधित्व करती है।
